famous survivor of the steam era, the Santa Fe #3751 joins the Lionel roster in 2011! First built in 1927, the 4-8-4 Northern type hauled the signature passenger trains of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway. After a distinguished 26 years of service and later decades as a dormant park display, Santa Fe #3751 was brought back to life by the San Bernardino Railroad Historical Society. The big Northern has made a number of excursion trips since 1991. After World War I, the goals of the USRA were shifted to the following commerce-related endeavors: standardize design for speed of construction, standardize components, reduce part shortages and cut railroad costs. Embracing this concept, the Chesapeake & Ohio and Wheeling & Lake Erie Railroads ordered the USRA 2-6-6-2 Mallet. The first Mallet was delivered to the W&LE in 1919 for the grand price of $71,966.94. Later, Nickel Plate leased Mallets from the W&LE and renumbered them for use on the NPR rails.
