Purchased originally from the Virginian Railway in the early 1960s, EF-4 rectifiers provided the New Haven Railroad a fresh new start using electric locomotives for freight hauling service. Numbered from 300 to 310, the 3,300 horsepower EF-4 electrics were durable and reliant helpers on the New Haven line until 1969, when Penn Central acquired the New Haven Railroad. These rugged electric “bricks” were quite unique in New Havens arsenal of locos, with their long rectangular shape, single pantograph on top, and the striking New Haven “New Image” orange paint scheme detailed with white stripes.

The classic rectifier returns to the Lionel line with the new New Haven EF-4. Fully equipped with Command Control, RailSounds, and ElectroCouplers, this electric locomotive also includes a classic motor and Magne-Traction.
